From the journal: notice the small training wins

An editorial notebook on recording progress without turning every walk into a performance test.

Start with the setting

Choose one observable skill, such as a few relaxed steps or a calm pause. Record the setting as well as the result.

Make the routine practical

Compare like with like: a quiet hallway and a busy street are different tasks. Adjust difficulty before deciding that the dog has failed.

Review and adapt

Include rest, sniffing and enjoyment in the record. This is an evergreen editorial feature, not a report of a newly announced study.

Keep a useful record

Write down what you tried, what changed and what you want to ask next. Community discussion can share experience, while individual health or behavior concerns need appropriately qualified help.
